We have had a super busy week celebrating World Book Day and Shrove Tuesday. Children have been bringing in their favourite stories to share and even come dressed as some of their favourite characters. We were very lucky to have parents coming in to read to us as well.
Just some of the books we shared included Hairy Maclary, Mrs Armitage, Weslandia, Ten Little Superheroes, The Tiger who came to tea, When I was born, Dear Zoo, Elmer, Katie Morag stories and many more. We created some fantasy worlds based on the books we had looked at, such imaginative ideas!
On Wednesday, the pre-schoolers had a busy afternoon playing games with sounds and letters. We played Eye Spy listening carefully to the sound at the beginning of the word. Some children made their name with magnetic letters and then wrote it underneath. Wow great skills!
Other activities included learning about balance. We looked at heavy and light, big and small and investigated how we could get the scales to balance. We talked about how sometimes we guess that something is heavy because it is very big but when we weigh it sometimes the smallest thing is heavier! We got the children to hold the items in their hands and then tell us which was the heaviest. This was much easier than guessing!
Next week we will be raising money for Comic Relief by taking part in some fantastic activities and also looking at how children around the world play, learn and live.
