On June 11th we celebrated International Day of Play, a day that recognises something we see every single day at Amberley Playgroup – the incredible importance of play in children's lives.

To many adults, play can sometimes look simple. Children building towers, mixing mud, dressing up, running, painting, exploring, and pretending. But behind every game and every adventure, children are learning vital skills that will support them throughout their lives.

The International Day of Play is an annual global observance held to champion and protect every child's right to play. Established by the United Nations in 2024, the day highlights how play is vital for children's cognitive development, mental wellbeing, and resilience. Recognized as a fundamental right under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the observance brings together families, educators, and global organizations to emphasize that play is not a luxury, but a necessity.

As a community playgroup, we are proud to provide a nurturing environment where children can learn through exploration, discovery, and joyful experiences. We value each child's unique interests and encourage them to follow their curiosity, knowing that meaningful learning happens when children are actively involved in their own play.

On International Day of Play, we celebrate the laughter, imagination, friendships, and discoveries that fill our setting every day. Most importantly, we celebrate the children themselves and their right to play, explore, and simply enjoy being children.

Because at Amberley Playgroup, we know that when children play, they learn.
