September 15th - September 26th

The children have really settled in well to playgroup and are embracing all the opportunities we present them with! The children enjoy choosing their favourite activities and sharing them with their friends.

Over the past two weeks we've been exploring our homes and families. The children have brought in their family photos and we've enjoyed learning all about the people that lives in their homes. We've looked at all different kinds of houses from bungalows and apartments to log piles and tree tops!

On a Wednesday afternoon we have our pre-school session, where our pre-school children focus on developing the skills they will need for school. Over the last couple of weeks we have been working on recognising our names. We've also been out and about in the community practicing our listening skills. We've been for a walk in the woods listening to the sounds of nature, and we went to the church café to see if we could hear any new sounds there. Listening and identifying sounds are some of the first steps in a child's learning to read journey.

Autumn has well and truly hit us, such a great time in any early years setting! Conkers, acorns, leaves and pumpkins make such great natural resources, so if you happen to be taking a stroll through the woods (deep, dark or otherwise) consider grabbing a handful of conkers to play with at home!
