Traditional Tales and Nursery Rhymes

This week we have been exploring favourite stories and rhymes, starting with Insy Winsy Spider, The Gingerbread Man and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This is helping us to listen to initial sounds and spot the rhyming words.

Everyone enjoyed acting out the story of The Gingerbread Man using small world characters and the book to help them. Some of our little ones asked if they could have a Gingerbread Man picture to take home so we found some for them to draw on, great for practicing their pencil control.

We had a great time making Gingerbread people, luckily none of them ran away!

Literacy and Mathematics have been supported through some small world play where children had fun matching (and eating) fruit and food items to pictures and words and counting with the Hungry Caterpillar.

We learnt about Incy Windy Spider, this supported concentration and physical development as the children used their fine motor skills to weave webs.

Next week we are thinking about shape, space and measure including positional language. We will be talking about stories and rhymes including Goldilocks and the three bears, Jack and the Beanstalk and Humpty Dumpty. See you on Monday!
